ACCU-CHEK® Aviva Expert, the first and only independent blood glucose measurement system with an integrated insulin calculator, is now available ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert offers people with diabetes a new and easy way to simplify complex calculations to offer accurate insulin dosing tips In the United States, approximately 6 million people take insulin to help manage their diabetes. 2 Many people also take multiple daily insulin injections to help manage their disease, which requires them to calculate appropriate amounts of insulin doses based on their food consumption and blood glucose readings. These calculations are complex, and constant accuracy is critical to determining the proper dose of insulin. A multicenter study found that 63% of the insulin doses manually calculated were incorrect.3 As an incorrect dose of insulin can cause serious health complications, including hypoglycemia, precise calculations are required. Researchers from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that there were nearly 100,000 emergency visits each year between 2007 and 2011 attributed to insulin-related hypoglycemia and other errors, and that these visits represented approximately 9 percent of all emergency visits due to drug reactions during this period. 4 "The availability of the ACCU-CHEK Aviva expert system marks an important milestone that changes the game in the self-management of diabetes making it easier to calculate the insulin dose and less susceptible to error," said Dr. Bruce W.
