ACCU-CHEK® Aviva Expert, the first and only independent blood glucose measurement system with an integrated insulin calculator, is now available ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert offers people with diabetes a new and easy way to simplify complex calculations to offer accurate insulin dosing tips In the United States, approximately 6 million people take insulin to help manage their diabetes. 2 Many people also take multiple daily insulin injections to help manage their disease, which requires them to calculate appropriate amounts of insulin doses based on their food consumption and blood glucose readings. These calculations are complex, and constant accuracy is critical to determining the proper dose of insulin. A multicenter study found that 63% of the insulin doses manually calculated were incorrect.3 As an incorrect dose of insulin can cause serious health complications, including hypoglycemia, precise calculations are required. Researchers from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that there were nearly 100,000 emergency visits each year between 2007 and 2011 attributed to insulin-related hypoglycemia and other errors, and that these visits represented approximately 9 percent of all emergency visits due to drug reactions during this period. 4 "The availability of the ACCU-CHEK Aviva expert system marks an important milestone that changes the game in the self-management of diabetes making it easier to calculate the insulin dose and less susceptible to error," said Dr. Bruce W. Bode, a clinical associate professor at Emory University Medical Department and a diabetes specialist at Atlanta Diabetes Associates in Atlanta, Georgia. "One of the biggest barriers to optimal self-management is the ability to calculate the bolt doses. My hope is that the device will become the standard of care for patients in multiple daily insulin injection therapy due to the simplicity of the integrated bolt calculator. "Diabetes affects 29.1 million children and adults in the U.S., approximately 9.3 per cent of the population. 2 Regular and accurate monitoring of blood glucose levels through self-test is essential to managing the disease and can reduce the risk of complications related to diabetes, such as heart disease, strokes, kidney failure, nerve damage and blindness. 2 "We are excited to provide the diabetes community with this innovative solution that will enable users to accurately calculate their insulin dose," said Marc Gibeley, director of Roche Diabetes Care North America. "The ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert system is the first and only system of its type that provides recommendations for insulin food and correction, which can help patients in insulin therapy to have the confidence they need to better manage their diabetes." The expert metering system is available by prescription only for people with diabetes who receive training in multiple daily injection therapies and are under the supervision of health professionals who live in the management of patients treated with insulin. ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert Indications: ACCU-CHEK Aviva The expert system is indicated as a help in treating diabetes that requires insulin. The ACCU-CHEK Aviva expert system is composed of the ACCU-CHEK Aviva expert meter, ACCU-CHEK Aviva More test strips, ACCU-CHEK Aviva control solutions and ACCU-CHEK Bolus Advisor. The ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert system is designed to facilitate the optimization of glucemic control in patients who receive training in multiple daily insulin injection therapies and are under the supervision of health professionals who have experienced in the management of patients treated with insulin. ACCU-CHEK Aviva The blood glucose monitoring system of experts is intended to be used for quantitative measurement of glucose in fresh whole capillary blood samples extracted from the tip of the fingers. ACCU-CHEK Aviva The blood glucose monitoring system of experts is intended to self-test outside the body (using in vitro diagnosis) by people with diabetes. ACCU-CHEK Aviva The blood glucose monitoring system of experts is intended to be used by a single person and should not be shared. ACCU-CHEK Aviva The blood glucose monitoring system should not be used for the diagnosis or detection of diabetes or for neonatal use. Alternative site testing should NOT be used with the blood glucose monitoring system ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert. The ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert system is intended only for prescribed domestic use. ACCU-CHEK Aviva is also indicated by an expert meter for the calculation of an insulin dose or intake of carbohydrates based on user data. The ACCU-CHEK Bolus Advisor, as a component of the ACCU-CHEK Aviva expert meter, is intended to use to provide insulin dose recommendations in response to blood glucose, health events and carbohydrate input. The ACCU-CHEK Bolus Advisor aims to provide direction for insulin adjustment within the scope of a pre-planned treatment program of a health professional. Before patient use, a health professional must prescribe the ACCU-CHEK Aviva Expert system and provide the blood glucose specifically directed to the patient, the insulin-carbohydrate ratio and the insulin sensitivity parameters that will be programmed in the ACCU-CHEK Bolus Advisor. Once programmed, the patient should consult with the health professional before making any changes in these ACCU-CHEK Bolus Advisor settings.
